About the episode
Sometimes we have a plan for an episode. Other times we sit down and ask, “So… what’s new?” and an hour later we’ve covered hormone shortages, stroke awareness, women’s health news, pharmacy frustrations, naps, allergies, and somehow ended up talking about turning into our parents.
This is one of those episodes.
We start by following up on our Firepit Episode and Chris’s stroke story, answering some of the questions that came up afterward. We talk about why stroke risk changes after menopause, the importance of recognizing the signs of a stroke, and the BE FAST acronym that everyone should know.
From there, we catch up on what’s happening in our own lives and in the world of menopause.
We compare notes on the nationwide estrogen patch shortage (and the adventure that is trying to actually get your prescription filled), discuss why PCOS has a brand-new name that better reflects what the condition actually is (hint: it’s not just about ovaries!), and take a closer look at some viral social media advice for controlling menopausal symptoms.
We meander through various topics, but menopause is the through-line. We’re just real women sharing our stories, which brings us to make a point of clarification…
Wait, are there multiple Menoposses?
It’s turns out we’re not the only Menoposse in town! Menopause expert Dr. Mary Claire has a collaborative network of clinicians who share research and advocate for evidence-based menopause care–she calls them her Menoposse. Learn more in Maria Shriver’s interview with Dr. Haver: Here’s What Dr. Mary Claire Haver and Her “Menoposse” Want Every Woman to Know About Her Health.
Despite the similar names, The MenoPosse Show™ podcast is unaffiliated. We just wanted to make sure y’all knew (once again) that we are not medical professionals. 🙂
