About the episode

It’s been a minute, and life has definitely been life-ing. In Episode 29, we’re talking about the stuff that has been consuming our brains lately, and there is no shortage of it.

Carrie and Krissy have officially relocated to Colorado! Getting acclimated to a new city comes with plenty of logistics and stress, but the beautiful mountain scenery makes it a little easier to deal with.

Meanwhile, Dannielle has been dealing with an especially difficult season. Her mother-in-law, who has been in assisted living, was recently moved to a new facility after a troubling experience with her previous care. Dannielle shares what happened, including concerns about medications, a missed UTI diagnosis, and the frustrating reality of advocating for an aging family member when you know something isn’t right. Thankfully, her mother-in-law is already showing signs of improvement in her new environment, bringing some much-needed relief to an incredibly stressful situation.

That experience leads to a bigger conversation about the sandwich generation, because apparently menopause wasn’t enough to keep us busy. There’s something uniquely exhausting about navigating your own physical and mental changes while also worrying about aging parents, caregiving, family obligations, and everyone else who needs something from you.

We also get into mental health, including anxiety, depression, medication, therapy, and what it feels like to finally get back to a healthier baseline. Sometimes you don’t realize how badly you’ve been feeling until something changes and you suddenly think, “Oh. Is this what normal feels like?”

And, of course, there’s Fine Wine Time, where each of us gets to bitch about something. Carrie has a brand-new windshield that survived approximately one week before another rock cracked it. Dannielle has an expensive white rug, a dog, and a story that ends exactly as badly as you’d expect. And Krissy would like to remind the professional world that responding to an email is, in fact, part of having a job.

If you’re navigating perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause while also juggling everything else life throws at you, you may recognize a little of yourself in this episode.

And if you’ve got something to bitch about, send it our way. We want to hear it!
